About the recipe
There’s something incredibly comforting about a warm bowl of porridge on a cool morning. This High-Protein Power Porridge is my go-to breakfast when I want something simple, nourishing and satisfying that will keep me energised all morning.Made with wholesome rolled oats that are soaked overnight for an irresistibly creamy texture, this porridge is naturally rich in protein, fibre and slow-release carbohydrates. Topped with creamy Greek yoghurt, protein-rich hemp seeds, antioxidant-packed berries and a drizzle of raw honey, it's the perfect balance of flavour and nutrition. Each serve provides around 25 g of protein to support lean muscle and lasting satiety, along with 10 g of fibre to nourish your gut microbiome, support healthy cholesterol and promote heart health. Oats are one of nature's richest sources of beta-glucan, a soluble fibre known for helping to maintain healthy cholesterol levels, while cinnamon and berries provide a wonderful boost of protective antioxidants. One of my favourite tricks is soaking the oats overnight. It softens the grains, creates the most beautifully creamy porridge, reduces the cooking time to just a few minutes and makes the oats wonderfully gentle on digestion.Simple, wholesome and endlessly versatile, this is a breakfast you'll come back to again and again.

NOTES & VARIATIONS
Make it your own
This recipe is wonderfully versatile and can be adapted using your favourite whole grains. Cooked Quinoa
Replace the oats with 2 cups cooked quinoa. Combine with the milk, water and a pinch of sea salt, then cook gently for 8 minutes until hot and creamy. Quinoa creates a lighter, fluffier breakfast bowl that's naturally high in protein and gluten free. Cooked Short-Grain Brown Rice
For a delicious rice porridge, use 2 cups cooked short-grain brown rice. Heat with the milk, water and sea salt for 8 minutes, stirring until creamy. Brown rice has a slightly chewier texture and a mild nutty flavour. No Overnight Soaking Needed
When using cooked quinoa or cooked brown rice, there's no need to soak overnight. Simply combine with the milk and water and heat until creamy and warmed through. Change the Consistency
Everyone likes their porridge a little differently. If you prefer a looser, silkier porridge, simply stir in a little extra hot milk or water until it reaches your perfect consistency. Why Soak Your Oats?
Soaking rolled oats overnight softens the grains, creating an extra creamy porridge that's wonderfully gentle on digestion. It also reduces the cooking time to just 3–5 minutes, making this an easy breakfast for busy mornings Serving Inspiration
One of the things I love most about this porridge is how easy it is to customise with the seasons. Try topping it with:
Fresh or frozen blueberries and a dollop of yoghurt and honey.
Sliced banana with cinnamon and a drizzle of raw honey
Stewed apples or pears with extra cinnamon
Fresh figs when in season
Chopped peaches or nectarines in summer
A sprinkle of hemp seeds for extra protein
Freshly ground flaxseed for an additional boost of fibre and omega-3 fats
A handful of sultanas for natural sweetness If you enjoy a looser, creamier porridge, simply pour over a little extra warm milk just before serving.
