About the recipe

Golden. Savoury. Protein-Rich.

If you’re looking for an easy way to add more plant-based protein to your meals, this crispy tofu is one of the simplest and most delicious options.
Firm tofu is tossed lightly in rice flour, then pan-fried until golden and crisp on the outside while remaining soft and tender inside. A finishing sprinkle of nutritional yeast adds a beautiful savoury, umami flavour — almost like a light parmesan note — while boosting the nutritional profile.
This high-protein crispy tofu is incredibly versatile. Toss it through salads, add it to lunch bowls, spoon it over salads or steamed vegetables, or serve it alongside dishes like my High-Protein Nacho Black Beans for a satisfying plant-powered meal.
It’s naturally vegan, gluten-free, budget-friendly and ready in minutes. A simple technique that turns humble tofu into something deeply delicious.

Switch measurement units

  • 500 g firm organic tofu
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour
  • 3 tablespoons nutritional yeast flakes
  • 2 –3 tablespoons olive oil for frying
  • Pinch sea salt

Method

  • Remove tofu from its packaging and pat dry with paper towel.
  • You can either cut the tofu into small cubes or gently scrunch it into rustic chunks using your hands. The rough edges help create extra crispy texture when cooked.
  • Place the tofu in a bowl and sprinkle over the rice flour. Toss gently until lightly coated.
  • Heat olive oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.
  • Add the tofu and cook for about 6 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden and crisp on all sides.
  • In the final minute of cooking, sprinkle over the nutritional yeast and a pinch of sea salt. Toss gently to coat the tofu evenly.
  • Remove from the pan and serve immediately.
